The Course

As micro-mobility devices—including e-bikes, e-scooters, hoverboards, and other small electric rideables—continue to grow in popularity, it is essential to understand what these devices are and why they are increasingly involved in fire and emergency incidents. In this awareness-level overview, you will explore the main components of micro-mobility devices, become familiar with the battery and electrical hazards that may be present, and examine the various device types you may encounter in your community.

As battery-powered transportation continues to expand, understanding where these devices are being stored, charged, repaired, and operated is vital to ensuring safety as a first responder. Safety is of utmost importance, so knowing how to respond, approach, size up, and work around micro-mobility devices involved in emergencies is essential to keep you, your crew, and the public safe.

What you will learn

When seeing how the world is changing in regard to transportation, lithium-ion powered devices continue to increase. You will learn about these devices, the hazards they pose, and how to mitigate these hazards if an incident occurs.
