The Course

As Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) continue to grow in popularity in the world, it is essential to understand what these systems and why they are starting to pop up everywhere. In this awareness level overview, you will dive into the main components of these systems, become aware of the potential hazards that exist, and explore the various types that are out there.

As battery technology continues to develop, understanding where batteries are located and what they are being used for will be vital to ensure safety as a first responder. Safety is of upmost importance, so knowing how to respond, approach, and work around BESS units is essential to keep you and your crews safe.

What you will learn

When out there in the real-world, BESS units have become a concern. When designing this course, I wanted to create an awareness level course without all of the technical terms and jargon we don't really need to know as a responder. That's why I stuck with the major components, the hazards, and response approaches to keep it easy. We don't need to know everything about these units, but just enough to ensure public safety is upheld.
